Happy New Year 2011

Happy New Year & Best Wishes for 2011 to all my readers.
Looking back through my log for 2010 I can see quite clearly that the Solar Cycle 24 started to show signs of life, despite some very poor conditions at times during the year. Some new DXCC’s worked during the year include Kermadec Islands, Norfolk Island, the four new PJ’s of course, Marion Island, Wallis & Futuna Island, St Vincent, & Eastern Kiribati.

Out of 2,800 QSL cards received 650 should NOT have been sent to me. Here is a guidline to help you in your QSL’ing.
Some things to remember when sending QSL cards.

1) It is very important to mark your log in the QSL SENT field. Mark your log B = Bureau or D = Direct.

2) If you send your QSL DIRECT. Never send the same QSL Via Bureau.

3) If requesting a QSL on a Online QSL Request Service, mark your log QSL Sent. Never send your QSL Via Bureau from an OQRS unless you are asked to.

4) NEVER send more than ONE QSL for the same QSO. If one is damaged or lost email the QSL Manager for another.

5) If my QSL says “THANKS QSL” That means I already have yours. DO NOT send me any more for that QSO!

6) Write ALL QSO’s on the ONE QSL card if you can. Do not send 10 QSL cards for 10 QSO’s.

7) All QSL cards Via M0URX. MUST be clearly written “QSL Via M0URX” Do not expect the Bureau to do it!

The above may sound like common sense but many of you are sending me up to 6 QSL cards for the same QSO by all routes. This wastes my time and wastes huge amounts of money for world Bureaus.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

qsl-mw0jrx

2010 has been a very busy year for the United Radio QSL Bureau, as the year draws to a close may I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Prosperous 2011.

A thank you for all your emails and letters over the past year.

It has been a real pleasure to work with the Radio Amateurs that I am QSL manager for. United Radio is a real team effort, from the guys that are operating from around the World, from Malaysia 9M6DXX Steve & 9M6XRO John, VK8NSB Stuie in Darwin, ZC4VJ Andy who closed his log this year with 66,000 Qs in the log. OY1OF Olavur & OY4TN Trygvi, from the Faroe Islands, P29CS Andy in Papua New Guinea and the many other operators too.

My stationary supplier Mike Pugh, thanks for the great support you gave to me again this year. I get through huge amounts of inkjet labels every year. Also thank you to ON5UR Max who has worked hard for me this year designing, printing and shipping the QSL cards to me.

I must also say farewell and good luck for your new life in Australia to a dear friend Oliver Bross MW0JRX. Oliver has been a massive help to me being the IT manager of my website, without you Oliver, this venture would not have been a success. Good luck dear friend for your future career and life in VK.

MS0INT 2011

St_Kilda
United Radio QSL Bureau are proud to annouce that we will be the QSL card sponsors for the 2011 IOTA activity  MS0INT – EU-010, EU-059, EU-111.

Isle of Benbecula – Grimsay – Baleshare – North Uist – Berneray – St Kilda Archipelago – Monach Isles.

June 2011
———————–

After the succesful activation of the dangerous and rare Flannan Isles, EU-118 in June 2010, the MS0INT team have re-grouped, re-organised and strengthened in size for their next adventure.

Again led by Col MM0NDX, the 2011 IOTA team includes George EA2TA, Christian EA3NT, Vincent F4BKV, Simon IZ7ATN and Bjorn SM0MDG with two more operators to be added nearer the time of activation. All highly experienced island activators, it is planned the MS0INT team will put Benbecula, Baleshare, North Uist, Berneray, St Kilda and Monach Isles on the air between June 15 – 22, 2011, weather / sea-state permitting.

Benbecula – all the team will fly into Benbecula, EU-010, making this the first island on the air. Operating time from here will be short as we head north to Grimsay, Baleshare, North Uist & Berneray.

Grimsay – a short distance from Benbecula, and also part of the EU-010 IOTA group, we plan to activate this island as we journey north.

Baleshare – our next island destination, again on EU-010.

North Uist – another likely short activation as we make our way to the Isle of Berneray. WAB hunters may be interested to work these rare squares on the above islands as we travel northwards.

Berneray – this will be the teams main base during their planned IOTA activity. Part of the vast EU-010 group, the Isle of Berneray is key to our operations. The actual island has not been activated that often, so this may appeal to dedicated chasers. Final testing of our equipment before we depart for St Kilda will be done here.

St Kilda Archiplelago – It’s hard to imagine that an IOTA with exactly 20 previous activations is claimed by only 35% of enthusiasts. The reason: Due to extreme WX. Not many people stay long and a great percentage of chasers who have made contact with EU-059 are from Europe. Our intention is to change that statistic. After a very long and difficult process, we can finally report that an activation will take place atop the summit of Hirta, the main island of the St Kilda Archipelago. Take-off angles everywhere are unobstructed and we believe every point on the globe will have a chance to work us. We hope to stay three full days on Hirta.

Monach Isles – Weather permitting, we will depart St Kilda and head for the Monach Isles. Similar to St Kilda, almost 20 previous activations have taken place resulting in just 33% claiming the IOTA. We plan to stay 24 hours giving as many as possible this semi-rare island also.

It must be made aware our plans may change quite suddenly due to weather/seas in the area.

A new MS0INT website with full details will be live soon. QSL manager will again be M0URX.

OY4TN Trygvi wrote to me today with the great news that Faroe Islands have extended the 4m Band Plan to 69.950 MHz – 70.500 MHz also an increase up to 100w.
Trygvi very much enjoys 4m so expect to hear more of OY4YN and other OY Hams on 4m.
